Lucknow Super Giants have suffered a major setback ahead of IPL 2026. Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury.
The all rounder’s absence leaves a significant gap in the squad. This comes at a crucial time as the team looks to build momentum in the competition.
The update was confirmed during LSG’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Team director Tom Moody stated that the franchise is already working on a replacement.
He added that a final decision is expected within the next 24 to 48 hours. The team is actively evaluating options to fill the vacancy.
Among the possible replacements, George Linde from South Africa is being considered. The left arm spinner has not yet played in the IPL but brings useful all round abilities.
Hasaranga’s injury dates back to February. He suffered a hamstring tear during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and has not returned to action since then.
There were also reports about incomplete fitness clearance. Without approval from Sri Lanka Cricket, he could not secure the required NOC for IPL participation.
Lucknow Super Giants had signed Hasaranga for Rs 2 crore in the auction. He was expected to play a key role in the team’s plans this season.
His experience from stints with Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be missed. Replacing his impact will not be easy.
As the tournament progresses, LSG will need to act quickly. The replacement decision could influence their campaign going forward.
