The fourth day of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo ended early due to heavy rain. Sri Lanka are 229/6 in their second innings and lead India by 16 runs.
India had declared their first innings at 503/9 before bowling Sri Lanka out for 290. With a 213 run lead, India forced Sri Lanka to follow on.
Sri Lanka then lost six wickets in their second innings. Manav Suthar took two wickets, while Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Saransh Jain and Ravindra Jadeja picked up one each.
Pasindu Sooriyabandara gave Sri Lanka some hope with 92 runs off 173 balls. Kamindu Mendis also scored 55.
But just when India were looking to finish the innings, rain returned. Sonal Dinusha is unbeaten on 7, while Keshar Nuwantha is unbeaten on 3. India now need four wickets to bowl Sri Lanka out.
The bigger problem for India is time. If India dismiss Sri Lanka quickly on Day 5, they will still have to chase the target. But another long rain delay could leave them with too little time to force a result.
The Colombo Test has already lost plenty of playing time to rain across the first four days. Can India finish the job on the final day, or will rain leave Sri Lanka with a draw?
