Kolkata Knight Riders have gone from champions in 2024 to a struggling side in the following seasons. After lifting the title, the team has failed to maintain consistency and has seen a clear drop in performance.
In 2024, KKR won the title under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy. The team had a stable core and delivered strong performances throughout the season.
However, the 2025 mega auction changed things. KKR did not retain Shreyas Iyer. They picked Ajinkya Rahane at base price, while Venkatesh Iyer became their most expensive signing.
Despite that, Ajinkya Rahane was given captaincy. Since then, the team has lacked stability and consistency, and the results have gone down.
In Season 18 (2025), KKR played 14 matches and won only five games. They finished 8th in the points table after a disappointing campaign.
The team looked inconsistent throughout the season. They failed to perform as a unit in key matches and could not finish games even after getting good chances.
Season 19 has been worse so far. KKR have played five matches, lost four, and one match was washed out against Punjab Kings, earning them just one point.
Officially, they have not won a single match this season. Even against Chennai Super Kings, they had chances but failed to close the game.
The main issue for KKR has been poor execution in crucial moments. The team has struggled with batting starts, lack of intent under pressure, and inability to finish matches.
From champions in 2024 to struggling in Seasons 18 and 19, KKR are clearly going through a tough phase. They need quick improvement to turn things around this season.
