SKY Targeted? Ex-Pak Captain Sparks Controversy!

Mohammad Yousuf Asia Cup controversy

The India Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 clash ended on a bitter note. India defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets, but Suryakumar Yadav and his teammates did not shake hands with the Pakistan players. A minor incident soon turned into a major controversy.

Yousuf’s Controversial Remark

Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf crossed the line during a TV debate. He mocked the Indian star repeatedly, calling him “Suarkumar”. Viewers were shocked, and even the anchor attempted to stop him.

Yousuf Defends Himself

Facing heavy criticism, Yousuf issued a statement on social media. He claimed he had no intention of disrespecting any sportsman. He questioned why Irfan Pathan’s remark about Shahid Afridi “barking like a dog” was praised while his comment was condemned.

PCB’s Complaints Against ICC

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) alleged that match referee Andy Pycroft was biased. They claimed Pycroft advised captain Salman Ali Agha not to shake hands at the toss. Pakistan then skipped the post-match presentation, lodged complaints with ICC and ACC, and even threatened to withdraw. However, the ICC dismissed their appeal to remove Pycroft.

Internal Chaos in PCB

The controversy deepened when it emerged that PCB’s Director of Cricket Operations, Usman Walha, failed to properly brief his captain about the tournament rules. This mistake caused chaos and embarrassment for the board. Furious, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi reportedly sacked Walha. A scheduled press conference was cancelled to avoid uncomfortable questions.

Fallout and Future Challenges

From a simple handshake snub, the matter has spiralled into insults, complaints, and sackings. Yousuf’s “Suarkumar” remark and his refusal to apologise have only intensified the anger. Now, Pakistan must not only beat UAE to stay alive in the Asia Cup but also fix the turmoil within their own board.
