No Bangladesh? India’s Surprise Series Before WC?

India Series With Srilanka

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is working behind the scenes to bring in Team India for a short white ball series in August.

India was supposed to tour Bangladesh for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is from August 17 but the tour has been postponed to September 2026. The reason?

Security concerns in the region. This was after India’s ongoing 5-Test series against England which ends on August 4. So now India has a small window and SLC is looking to fill it.

An SLC official said talks have already started and more discussions will happen during the ICC meetings in Singapore. “We expect a decision in 2-3 days,” the official told telecomasia.net.

If the series gets the go ahead matches could be played in Colombo and Kandy. While the proposal includes ODIs and T20s, the focus is more likely to be on T20s especially with the T20 World Cup coming up in early 2026 which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka together.

This window opened up because the Lanka Premier League (LPL) which was scheduled for August has been pushed back.

So instead of sitting idle SLC is trying to bring in a top team to keep the players active and give fans something to cheer about.

Sri Lanka’s T20 team is also under pressure. They just lost a T20 series 2-1 to Bangladesh their first ever series defeat to them in this format. After the loss stand-in captain Charith Asalanka didn’t hide his frustration.

“We can’t enter the World Cup undercooked,” he said. He also pointed out that a few places in the squad are still not settled so playing strong teams like India would really help.

Nothing is official yet but things are moving fast. If everything goes well Sri Lanka could be hosting India in August something that will not only give players good match practice but also lift the spirits after a tough series loss. Fans should keep an eye out this series could be confirmed in just a few days.
