Gill’s Captaincy Impact? RR Suffer Big Collapse

Gujarat Titans dominate Rajasthan Royals clash

Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals by 77 runs in the 52nd match of IPL 2026. With this victory, Gujarat Titans moved to second place in the points table with 14 points. Rajasthan Royals slipped to the fifth position after suffering another disappointing defeat.

Chasing a massive target of 230 runs, Rajasthan Royals were bowled out for 152 in just 16.3 overs. The team started positively during the powerplay but kept losing wickets at regular intervals. RR failed to build partnerships and eventually suffered a major batting collapse.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi played an attacking knock of 36 runs from 16 balls before Mohammed Siraj dismissed him. Kagiso Rabada then put Rajasthan Royals under pressure by removing Yashasvi Jaiswal for 3 and Shimron Hetmyer for just 6 runs.

Rashid Khan later changed the course of the match with crucial wickets in the middle overs. He dismissed Dhruv Jurel, Donovan Ferreira, Shubham Dubey and Ravindra Jadeja. Jurel scored 24 runs from 10 balls, while Jadeja made 38 runs from 25 deliveries.

Rajasthan Royals also struggled badly in the field during Gujarat Titans’ innings. Dropped catches and fielding mistakes allowed Gujarat Titans to post a huge total. Those missed opportunities proved costly during the run chase later in the match.

Another major concern for Rajasthan Royals was their batting approach throughout the innings. Most batters attempted aggressive shots immediately after arriving at the crease. However, nobody stayed long enough to stabilise the innings or build meaningful partnerships.

Earlier in the match, Gujarat Titans scored a strong total of 229/4 after losing the toss. Captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a brilliant 84 runs from 44 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. Sai Sudharsan added an important 55 runs from 36 deliveries.

Washington Sundar remained unbeaten on 37 runs from 20 balls and provided late acceleration. Rahul Tewatia also played a quick cameo by scoring 14 runs from just four deliveries during the final overs of the innings.

For Rajasthan Royals, Brijesh Sharma picked up two wickets during the match. Yash Punja and Ravindra Jadeja claimed one wicket each but failed to stop Gujarat Titans from crossing the 220-run mark.

Gujarat Titans have now registered three consecutive victories in IPL 2026. The team earlier defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings before overcoming Rajasthan Royals. Under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, Gujarat Titans have impressed with balanced performances in both batting and bowling.
