India are under pressure after a heavy defeat to South Africa. With semi final qualification at stake, the focus has shifted to strengthening the batting line-up, especially at the top of the order.

The current combination includes two left handed openers and another left hander at number three. This balance could be challenging against certain bowling attacks, prompting internal discussions.

Kotak admitted that the presence of multiple left handers is part of the evaluation. He said the opposition’s bowling options are also being studied while planning changes.

He added that early wickets in recent matches have forced the team to rethink their approach. Poor starts have repeatedly put pressure on the middle order.

Sanju Samson, who is in the squad as a backup opener and wicketkeeper, has emerged as a strong option. Kotak confirmed that Samson is in the team’s plans.

However, he clarified that performance in training sessions does not guarantee selection. Final decisions will depend on match requirements and conditions.

India’s biggest concern remains their slow starts with the bat. Kotak stressed that a solid opening partnership can completely shift the momentum of the game.

With everything at stake, India must now choose between change and continuity. The match against Zimbabwe will be decisive in this do or die situation.
