Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in the 63rd match of IPL 2026. The win confirmed their place in the playoffs and strengthened their position in the points table during the crucial final stage.
With this result, Gujarat Titans have also secured qualification for the playoffs. Chennai Super Kings, however, are now on the verge of elimination. Even a win in their final match may not be enough to keep their hopes alive.
Chasing a target of 181 runs, Sunrisers Hyderabad completed the chase with one over to spare. The team showed composure under pressure and managed the innings well despite a few early setbacks.
Ishan Kishan played a match-winning knock of 70 runs off 46 balls. He guided the chase with calm batting and smart decisions. Heinrich Klaasen also contributed significantly with a crucial innings in the middle overs.
SRH did not begin strongly, as Travis Head was dismissed for just six runs. Abhishek Sharma added 26 runs but could not convert his start into a big score during the chase.
After the early wickets, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen built a strong partnership. The pair added 75 runs for the third wicket and shifted the momentum back in favour of Hyderabad.
Klaasen was later dismissed after making an important contribution and also completed 2000 IPL runs during the match. His innings played a key role in stabilising the chase.
Despite the dismissal at one end, Ishan Kishan maintained control of the innings. He ensured Hyderabad stayed ahead with timely boundaries and effective strike rotation under pressure.
In the final overs, Hyderabad completed the chase comfortably and sealed their playoff spot. Ishan Kishan’s innings proved to be the defining difference between the two teams.
Earlier, Chennai Super Kings posted 180 runs for seven wickets after batting first. The total appeared competitive but was not enough to defend against a strong SRH batting effort.
Dewald Brevis top-scored with 44 runs off 27 balls. Sanju Samson added a quick 27 off 13 balls, while Shivam Dube contributed 26 runs to support the innings.
CSK once again struggled with their top-order approach in a crucial match. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad scored only 15 runs off 21 balls, which slowed down the innings at an important stage.
His slow knock increased pressure on the middle order. Fans have started questioning whether captaincy responsibilities are affecting his batting form this season.
For Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pat Cummins led the bowling attack effectively. He picked up three important wickets and ensured control during the middle overs.
The bowlers maintained discipline and restricted CSK from reaching a bigger total. Their performance played a key role in setting up the win.
With this victory, Sunrisers Hyderabad officially qualified for the IPL 2026 playoffs. Chennai Super Kings now face a difficult path and are close to elimination from the tournament.
