Yash Dayal, one of the leading bowlers for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their IPL 2025 title win, will not be playing in the UP T20 League starting August 17. The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association has barred him from participating after a police case was filed against him.
UPCA Bars Dayal from Playing
Dayal had been bought by Gorakhpur Lions for seven lakh rupees, but the state board instructed the team not to include him in the squad. The 27 year old pacer faces serious trouble after a case was registered at Sanganer Sadar Police Station in Jaipur.
Legal Setback Before the Tournament
On August 6, the Rajasthan High Court refused to grant him interim protection from arrest, noting that the victim in the case is a minor. The next court hearing is scheduled for August 22, and his future participation in cricket remains uncertain.
Career Achievements and Recent Success
Dayal has represented Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL, claiming 41 wickets in 43 matches. He was part of Gujarat’s 2022 title win and later joined Bengaluru, where he took 13 wickets in 15 matches during the 2025 season to help secure their maiden IPL trophy.
Impact on Teams and Career Prospects
This suspension is a setback for Dayal after an impressive IPL run. For Gorakhpur Lions, it means losing a proven match winner days before the league. If the matter is not resolved soon, Bengaluru could also be forced to drop him from their IPL 2026 squad.
Future Hinges on Legal Outcome
Dayal’s career now rests on the outcome of the court case. If cleared, he could return to competitive cricket, but for now, his attention will be on defending himself in court. The UP T20 League will proceed without one of its biggest signings.
