Suriya’s most anticipated Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, which was released in theaters on May 1st, has received mixed responses from audiences and is heading towards a theatrical failure.
Retro was produced by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment and Karthik Subbaraj’s Stone Bench Films. Now, Suriya has donated ₹10 crore from the film’s profits to his Agaram Foundation for the welfare and educational purposes of poor students.
Following this, netizens praised Suriya, stating that despite the continuous failures of his movies, Suriya still has a huge fan base in Tamil Nadu because of these types of gestures and his helping tendencies.
However, reports suggest that Retro is a profitable venture for the production houses, as it secured a table profit by selling the digital and OTT rights, and whatever revenue has come from its theatrical run was additional profit.
So, according to trade experts, despite the theatrical failure, Retro is still a profitable movie for the production houses.
Though Retro ended up being a disappointment for Kollywood audiences, this kind gesture from the actor has won their hearts.
Nevertheless, Suriya is now going to star in a lead role under Venky Atluri’s direction, and it remains to be seen whether this project becomes a blockbuster success and helps Suriya make a comeback in his acting career.
