Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara, is officially scheduled for a worldwide Pongal release on January 14. Now, you are hearing strong speculation that the film may be preponed. This move could result in a direct clash with Vijay’s Jana Nayagan.
According to trade buzz, the Parasakthi team is considering a January 9 or January 10 release. The reason is practical. Three Telugu big films, Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu, Anangana Oka Raju and RT76, are releasing on January 13 and 14.
You can see why the makers want a smoother overseas and Telugu release. However, this decision has raised eyebrows in trade circles. Many experts feel the team is taking an unnecessary risk by advancing the release.
Trade voices say Jana Nayagan deserves a solo run since it is Vijay’s last film. Despite this sentiment, Parasakthi is reportedly heading for a direct clash. That has surprised many in the industry.
There is also concern about fan reactions. If Parasakthi clashes with Jana Nayagan on January 9, Vijay fans are likely to react strongly. You may see Sivakarthikeyan facing increased hatred from the Kollywood audience.
Screen allocation is another issue being discussed. Even though Red Giants is distributing Parasakthi, theatre owners may prioritise Jana Nayagan. Since it is Vijay’s final film, it is expected to get preference.
As of now, there is no official confirmation from the Parasakthi team. You will have to wait to see whether the film prepones its release. The final decision between January 9 and January 14 is still pending.
