Karuppu: Zero Buzz, Poor Planning, Worst Show Timings

Suriya Karuppu film low booking response

Suriya’s commercial entertainer Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji, is set for a worldwide theatrical release tomorrow. With only a few hours left, pre bookings have picked up pace across several regions as the film approaches its opening day.

The pre release buzz for Karuppu was affected by the recent political developments in Tamil Nadu after the election results. However, the trailer and songs by Sai Abhyankkar helped regain some attention and created last minute interest among audiences.

Despite this, poor release planning is impacting the film’s opening prospects. Reports suggest that in centres like Madurai, bookings were paused due to financial issues between distributors and the makers, affecting momentum at a crucial stage.

Overseas, Karuppu is witnessing weak advance bookings. In the USA, only 468 tickets have been sold so far. The total North American advance sales, including premieres, stand at around $18K, which is below expectations for a Suriya film.

One key reason is the lack of proper premiere planning in several regions. Many centres have no premiere shows, while others have late night timings. This has limited audience turnout and affected overall booking numbers significantly.

Suriya’s fans have reacted strongly on social media. They believe Karuppu has strong commercial potential but feel poor planning could hurt its opening. Many expressed concern that a promising film may lose early box office advantage.

The current trend shows that Karuppu will depend heavily on word of mouth after release. It remains to be seen whether the film meets expectations and delivers a strong comeback for Suriya at the box office.
