Suriya, after the terrible disaster of Kanguva, has returned with Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, which was released in theatres on May 1st and has received mixed responses from the audience.
Every Kollywood audience member expected that Suriya would make a comeback and deliver a theatrical success with Retro, but Retro also flopped badly, as many viewers were disappointed with its second half and felt it was draggy.

Also, even though Retro had a decent opening in Tamil Nadu on Day 1, in other versions such as Hindi and Telugu, it had a very bad opening. In Tamil Nadu too, the audience count dropped drastically from Day 2.
Despite the box office failure, Retro also hasn’t acquired positive responses from critics and general audiences, as many felt it was just an outdated masala movie and that Karthik Subbaraj simply copied scenes from his own previous films.

In this context, Lokesh Kanagaraj, during his interaction with the press after watching Retro in a theatre in Chennai, revealed that a standalone movie for Rolex with Suriya will happen in the future.
Following this, some Suriya fans on social media commented that Lokesh Kanagaraj is the one who is going to help Suriya make a comeback, it seems.

However, it remains to be seen when the shooting of the Rolex movie is going to happen and whether it becomes a blockbuster success and gives Suriya a much-needed breakthrough in his career.
