Director Shankar is yet to officially announce his next project after the failures of Indian 2 and Game Changer. Reports suggest he is planning his dream project Velpari. Pre-production work has already begun, but key details are still under discussion.
Speculation grew after Shankar attended the pooja ceremony of Dhanush’s D55. Many believed he was considering Dhanush for the lead role in Velpari. These rumours gained traction as both were seen together during early stage work.
However, recent updates indicate that the casting for Velpari is not finalised yet. Shankar is still exploring options for the lead role. This has kept the project in discussion, with multiple names being considered across the industry.
At the same time, Suriya’s Karuppu directed by RJ Balaji has been performing strongly at the box office. Suriya’s king-like appearance as the deity Karuppu has received a positive response. Fans have praised the look widely on social media.
Following this response, many fans suggested that Suriya should take up a historical role. Some even recommended him for Velpari, citing his screen presence and physicality. They believe he could convincingly portray a powerful king.
On the other hand, a section of viewers opposed the idea. They pointed to Suriya’s earlier historical film Kanguva, which did not perform well. According to them, repeating a similar genre could be a risky move for the actor.
All these reactions remain part of social media discussions for now. Shankar has not confirmed any casting decisions for Velpari. It remains to be seen if Suriya will be considered after Karuppu and how the project develops further.
