Following the blockbuster success of Karuppu, Suriya is preparing for the release of his next film Vishwanath and Sons, directed by Venky Atluri. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14. Expectations are high after the strong performance of his previous release.
At the same time, Suriya is shooting for his commercial entertainer tentatively titled Suriya 47, directed by Jithu Madhavan. The production is progressing at a brisk pace, and the makers are aiming to release the film later this year.
Even before completing Suriya 47, Suriya officially announced his 48th film with TJ Gnanavel. The project will be produced by the pan-Indian production house Hombale Films. While Vishwanath and Sons and Suriya 47 were finalised before the release of Karuppu, the announcement of Suriya 48 came after the film’s success.
Amid these developments, social media is buzzing with speculation that Suriya may increase his remuneration to Rs 100 crore from Suriya 48 onwards. The discussions gained momentum after Karuppu reportedly crossed Rs 300 crore at the worldwide box office.
If the speculation turns out to be true, Suriya would become the fifth Kollywood actor to enter the Rs 100 crore remuneration club after Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, and Ajith Kumar. However, there has been no official confirmation from the actor or the makers.
Some trade experts believe that such a salary hike could significantly increase the financial risk for producers. According to these discussions, Karuppu reportedly earned around Rs 300 crore worldwide, while the producers benefited from theatrical share and digital rights. With a production cost estimated at Rs 80 to Rs 100 crore, the film is said to have generated healthy profits.
They argue that if Suriya’s remuneration rises to Rs 100 crore, the overall budget of his future projects could touch Rs 200 crore. In that case, the film would require a much higher box office collection to recover its investment, increasing the pressure on its theatrical performance.
Some industry observers also feel Suriya should continue with his current remuneration until he delivers a few more consecutive blockbusters in the Rs 300 crore range. They believe maintaining a balanced budget would reduce the financial burden on producers.
For now, these remain social media discussions and industry speculation. There is no official clarity on Suriya’s remuneration for Suriya 48. Even so, the reports have generated considerable interest among fans and the film industry.
