Suriya’s Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, and Sasi Kumar’s Tourist Family, directed by debutant director Abishan Jeevinth, clashed in theaters on May 1st.
While Suriya’s Retro had an upper hand in the opening day collections due to its status as a big-budget film, Tourist Family had a decent opening despite being a medium-budget movie.

However, gradually after the first week, Tourist Family’s collections increased across the states due to super positive word of mouth from the audience, whereas Retro’s collections dipped in many places due to an average response.
In this scenario, recently at an event, a popular Tamil Nadu distributor revealed that Tourist Family has crossed the lifetime collections of Retro in Tamil Nadu and emerged as a blockbuster success. This video has now gone viral.

Following this, netizens on social media started responding that Suriya is in extreme downfall, as even a small medium-budget movie like Tourist Family has crossed his movie’s collection.
They suggest that Suriya should take this as a wake-up call and from now on should choose good scripts to retain his throne; otherwise, he may fall from Tier 2 to Tier 3.

Tourist Family still has a strong hold in the box office collections in its 3rd week and has already emerged as the highest-grossing movie for Sasi Kumar in his entire acting career.
