Though the news of discontinuation came as early as September, there were no follow-up updates until today. Google will be retiring its podcast venture in April 2024, and for years, it has been home to some of the most beloved podcasts.
Now the question comes, what to do after this?
Google will allow users to transfer their subscription to YouTube Music, as they are planning to launch a tool for the transfer of subscriptions.
A forthcoming app banner will introduce a migration tool, complemented by step-by-step instructions on Google’s support site. Users not opting for YouTube Music can export subscriptions as an OPML file to compatible third-party podcast apps until July 2024.
To utilize the migration tool, tap “Export Subscriptions” at the screen’s top, then hit “Export” under “Export to YouTube Music.” If the YouTube Music app is absent, users will be prompted to install it.
Google plans to extend the migration tool to more countries, aiming to streamline audio streaming efforts and unite diverse audiences under YouTube Music.
