Threads Dies After Massive Engagement

Threads Dies After Massive EngagementMeta’s text-based app, Threads, seemed to start strong, reaching an impressive 100 million users in just five days, outpacing ChatGPT’s record. However, the app’s retention rate has been far from ideal, with more than half of its users leaving.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged the issue during an internal town hall meeting, stating that while retention was better than expected, it was not perfect.

The drop in user numbers was seen as ‘normal’ by Zuckerberg, who remains optimistic about improving retention rates with the addition of more features. Meta plans to introduce retention-driving hooks to entice users back to the app, like integrating important Threads into Instagram.

Despite challenges in Meta’s main social businesses, Facebook, and Instagram, they are committed to investing in Threads. Economic conditions, the rise of short-form video, and iOS privacy policy changes have posed hurdles for their revenue from digital ads.

Nonetheless, Meta’s positive earnings report and optimistic forecasts have buoyed investor confidence, with shares rising by 9 percent. As Meta looks to the future, they anticipate double-digit percentage growth in sales for the third quarter, showing faith in Zuckerberg’s vision.
