Air India’s Bold Move for Pilot & Crew Health

Air India Mental Health App

In a progressive step focused on employee well-being, Air India has launched a dedicated mental and emotional health app exclusively for its pilots, cabin crew, and their families. Developed in partnership with mental health platform Amaha, the initiative is a key part of the airline’s broader Wellness AI program.

Responding to Aviation Stress and Tragedy

The launch comes after growing mental health concerns among aviation professionals, especially following the tragic Air India Flight AI171 crash. The emotional aftermath of that incident weighed heavily on operational staff. Since then, many crew members have reported heightened stress, anxiety, and fatigue. These growing concerns pushed the airline to offer real, accessible support.

What the App Offers

Under the new program, Air India employees and up to three dependents now receive free and confidential access to the Amaha platform. The app includes therapy sessions, psychiatric consultations, mood tracking, journaling, goal setting, and self-care routines. An AI-powered chatbot offers instant emotional assistance when needed.

Simple and Private Access

The app is available for on-demand use, meaning pilots and crew can access support at any time. The registration process is straightforward. HR or crew management sends internal communication with instructions, allowing employees to register and begin using the app without delay. All use of the platform remains private and secure.

Setting a New Benchmark in Airline Wellness

This initiative positions Air India as a leader in supporting crew mental health. In an industry where emotional strain is often underacknowledged, this move sets a new standard for care. Whether other airlines follow suit remains to be seen, but Air India’s commitment marks a significant cultural shift in aviation wellness.
