The flight 6E 762, an Airbus A321neo, was carrying nearly 200 passengers and crew when a handwritten note with the word “BOMB” was discovered in a lavatory. The crew alerted the pilot, who informed air traffic control immediately.

Security committees activated

Bomb Threat Assessment Committees at both Mumbai and Delhi airports took charge. Members from the CISF, BCAS, and airport operators oversaw the risk evaluation and ensured necessary security steps before landing.

Safe landing and evacuation

The aircraft landed safely in Delhi at 7:53 am and was moved to a remote bay. Passengers were evacuated, baggage was screened, and security teams thoroughly checked the aircraft. No suspicious objects were found.

IndiGo’s response

IndiGo said all protocols were followed. Authorities were alerted, and passengers received refreshments and regular updates during checks. Delhi airport operations faced delays until midday but resumed after clearance.

Rising hoax threats

Authorities noted a sharp increase in hoax bomb threats against Indian airlines. Between August 2022 and November 2024, more than 1,100 such threats were recorded, nearly 200 involving IndiGo. Investigations are underway, with enhanced screening and stricter emergency measures in place.
