$1 Million Fine For Using Hazardous Chemical!

Fine Hazardous Chemical

Would you believe that your uniform can make you rich? It is obviously not exactly how it looks and you probably don’t want to get rich this way. Most of us have had some complaints from our uniforms at some stage of our life. But it is rare that your uniform puts you in a health related issue. For some flight attendants of American Airlines, this turned into reality when the company introduced new uniforms for them. A recent jury has ruled and fined the uniform makers for the airline $1 million because they used harmful chemicals in their clothes.

It all started in 2016, when American Airlines decided to change their uniform. The contract for making new uniforms was given to Twin Hill Acquisition Co. Many flight attendants started complaining about health issues like rashes, itching, headaches and breathing problems. The issue was brought up with the airline and as a temporary measure they allowed attendants to use the old uniform.

A lawsuit was filed in 2017 by a group of attendants who faced severe health issues because of the uniform. In the lawsuit it was claimed that the uniforms contained traces of formaldehyde and toluene.

The lawsuit resulted in a million dollar fine for the company but it can potentially turn into a very big case as there are around 400 flight attendants who claim they have been affected because of the uniform. This could go to a trial if the company is not willing to settle with them.
