The Indian diaspora continues to be a major part of the local economy, sending home a staggering $129 billion this year. With this, India has become the world’s top recipient of remittances in 2024, way ahead of Mexico ($68 billion) and China ($48 billion).
This is a big resurgence as the remittance growth rate climbed to 5.8% in 2024, compared to just 1.2% in 2023. It is not just a statistic but a statement of the global presence and strength of the Indian community.
These numbers reflect job recoveries in the US, Canada, and Europe. Despite economic challenges affecting the international employment market, Indians continue to show determination and resilience.
Every year, 2.5 million Indians migrate abroad, showing the increasing demand for Indian talent in key sectors. IT professionals, engineers, scientists, and doctors are professions dominated by the community, including NRIs and foreign citizens of Indian origin.
It is a positive sign for the country that working individuals have not forgotten their roots and keep sending money back home to support their families. Their contribution to India’s economy often went unnoticed and should be acknowledged more.
