The Justice Department in the US is pursuing action against a huge fraud that has allegedly duped money from the Medicare funds. The losses are estimated in billions. An Indian and two Indian origin people have been charged in this case.
One of the accused is from Hyderabad and he is being charged for conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and health care fraud. The department estimates the intended loss to be $2.75 billion. The actual loss reported by the government is $1.6 billion.
A total of 193 people have been charged in this fraud which includes doctors, nurses and licensed medical practitioners. The department has also seized assets worth $231 million in the case. This is considered to be a very big fraud and raises questions about the role of people in authority.
