Ever since the Israel-Palestine war began, the focus of world media completely shifted from Ukraine. The Russia Ukraine war is still going on and Russia is now commanding a greater and stronger hold on some of the Ukrainian territories. The Ukraine war posed a different problem for a number of Indian students as Ukraine was the top destination for Indian students to study medicine.
Since the war is still on and Ukraine is still out of reach, students are looking for alternatives and they have found one in this Central Asian country. The new destination for thousands of Indian medical students is the State Samarkand Medical University in Uzbekistan.
Although Uzbekistan was not a very popular destination for Indian students, after the Ukraine war, the scene has changed completely. Before the war, there were 100-150 Indian students studying in the university. In 2023, around 3000 Indian medical students took admission in the university.
This sudden surge in the number of Indian students is also because of those students taking admission who were already studying in Ukraine when the war began. The students studying there also said that many professors are from India and Pakistan making it easier for Indian students to accommodate.
