When it comes to population and numbers, Indians are never far behind. Indians arguably constitute the biggest population in the world. They are also one of the biggest migrant communities in the USA. But Indians now have a record that they would definitely not want to associate themselves with.
Indians now constitute the 3rd largest population of illegal immigrants in India.
This record might come off as a surprise to many people because of the reputation Indians have in the United States. They are usually associated with the ivy league colleges and the biggest tech firms in the silicon valley.
But it turns out that there’s a huge population of Indians that enters the States illegally through smugglers.
According to the report, there are around 725,000 Indians living illegally in the US.
The number of Indians caught trying to enter the United States illegally increased five times between the year 2020 to 2023. However, the total number of illegal immigrants residing in the USA is decreasing.
Nearly 100,000 Indians have been arrested trying to enter the States illegally. The numbers have increased post pandemic and experts believe that global migration saw a rise in that period. The waiting period for visa has also increased significantly and the backlog has made it impossible for many to attain a US visa.
