Canada is one of the top destinations for Indian students to pursue a higher degree. Thousands of students enroll in various universities in Canada paying a hefty sum of money. But getting into a university in Canada is now going to put a bigger hole in your pocket. Canada has made changes in some immigration policies which will make it more difficult for Indian students aiming to live and study in Canada.

The minimum cost of living financial requirements for students has been increased from 10,000 Canadian dollars to 20,635 Canadian dollars. The new change will be effective from the 1st of January.

Students studying in Canada have to deposit this money in banks which issue them Guaranteed Investment Certificate and then they are allowed to withdraw a certain sum of money from their account every month.

The move is going to impact a large number of students who are already battling high tuition fees and increased IELTS exam fees. A large number of students in these universities are from Punjab who are going to suffer this extra burden.

Currently there are around 3.5 lakh Punjabi students studying in Canada. The government says that the change is made to make sure that students don’t face any financial problems during their course of study.
