Dallas Indian Charged For Shocking Threats

Bhushan Athale

In recent times, a disturbing pattern of potentially racially motivated attacks has unfolded in the US. Some Indians fueled by hate are spewing venom against other communities and religions.

A 48-year-old Dallas resident, Bhushan Athale, has been charged with a federal hate crime and making interstate threats against employees of a Sikh nonprofit organization.

The charges stem from a series of menacing voicemails Athale left for the organization, expressing extreme hatred and making violent threats.

On September 17, 2022, Athale left voicemails for a Sikh civil rights group, where he allegedly used obscene language and threatened to harm or kill Sikh individuals.

He detailed specific acts of violence, such as forcibly shaving their hair and making them eat tobacco. This incident marked the beginning of a pattern of threatening behavior.

In March, Athale left more voicemails for the same organization, this time also targeting Muslims. He expressed violent intentions towards both Sikhs and Muslims, using offensive and abusive language. The investigation revealed Athale’s history of making religious-based threats.

Athale faces serious legal consequences. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for interfering with federally protected activities and up to 5 years for transmitting interstate threats. Additionally, he could be fined up to $250,000 for each charge.
