The 22 years old defender from Manipur, Bijay Chhetri became the first Indian footballer to secure a professional contract with the Latin American club, Colon Futbol Club in Uruguay from Chennaiyin FC.
Colon Futbol Club is a shining feather in the crown of football teams as they secured four stars, In 1924 and the other one in 1928 as winners of Olympic gold medals.
They are also twice the winner of the World Cup, first in 1930 and then in 1950.
The co-owner of Chennaiyin FC Vita Dani, expressed her enthusiasm and happiness for Chhetri, as she said that she is very happy for Bijay and wishes him all the best for his new journey.
On the topic of the transfer Marcelo Rifas, the director of Colon Futbol Club said, after they checked Chhetri’s profile they were astounded. They also added that they would like Chhetri to join them as soon as possible because they are quite confident that he could be a first-team player for them.
With great excitement for his new life Bijay said, he is very much excited for this opportunity, he will be forever grateful towards Chennaiyin FC and Vita Dani. He also promises to keep the faith intact which is shown by Colon Futbol Club. Furthermore, he took an oath to always keep the Indian flag flying high.
