Elon Musk, the self-proclaimed champion of free speech, found out even he has its limits when he banned a journalist from his social media platform.
Ken Klippenstein, an independent journalist, recently shared a document on X that contained sensitive information about Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance. The files were allegedly hacked by Iranian actors and possessed incriminating details about Vance.

The X owner, however, didn’t take much likeness to it as Kleppenstein was banned from the platform for violating its hacked materials policy. Notably, this rule existed before Musk bought Twitter and made adjustments to the policy saying it will no longer remove hacked content unless it is directly shared by the hackers.
Despite this change, X has banned the journalist’s account claiming the documents share personal information about Vance, like his address and social security number. It didn’t stop Musk’s critics though who have lambasted him for hypocrisy.

Elon Musk is a proud Trump supporter and friend who may even get a role in the cabinet as per the Republican candidate. Thus, it adds more shade to X’s action to ban the journalist with many calling the move politically motivated.
Before he acquired Twitter, Musk criticized the site for a ban on sharing information about Hunter Biden when his Laptop was hacked just weeks before the 2020 election. Critics were quick to remind him of this and called out his change in stance now he is on the other side.
