H-1B Scam OPT Fired

An OPT worker recently shared how a European-based employer betrayed and crushed their H-1B dreams even after signing an agreement.

The F-1 visa Holder took to Reddit to share that he signed an employment agreement that clearly included H-1B sponsorship. He worked long hours, helped build the company’s US presence, and played by the rules.

However, when H1B filing season came around, the employer-backed out and cut him loose. They didn’t even bother with a proper explanation.

First, they refused to pay the USCIS (US Citizenship and Immigration Services) filing fees. Then they went silent before finally ending the contract making a signed agreement meaningless.

It got even worse as the employee claimed he was paid nearly 50% below the Department of Labour’s prevailing wage, with no benefits, no health insurance, no PTO (Paid Time Off), and no retirement plan.

This isn’t just unethical, it might be illegal. Some users pointed out that such underpayment can lead to DOL audits and penalties. But without an H1B even filed, legal options are limited which such companies continue to exploit.
