Green Card Chaos: Address Change Flags Couple ‘Absent’

Green card interview USCIS issue

A green card interview issue has turned into a major concern for a married couple in the United States. They claim USCIS marked them as absent despite being told not to attend the scheduled interview.

The couple filed I-130, I-485, and a work permit application after their marriage in May 2025. The husband was on an F-1 visa at the time. They stated they had been in a relationship for six years before getting married.

In September 2025, the couple moved to another state and informed USCIS about the address change in advance. However, their interview was still scheduled at their previous location, creating confusion about the process.

The couple said they contacted USCIS three times before the interview date. Each time, they were reportedly advised not to attend as the old office no longer handled their case. They were told a new interview would be scheduled.

Despite following these instructions, their case status was later updated to show that no one attended the interview. This unexpected update has created uncertainty and delayed their application process.

Months have passed, but the issue remains unresolved. The husband has also not received work authorisation for nearly a year since filing. This has added to the stress faced by the couple.

The couple is now planning another move due to a job opportunity. At the same time, concerns are growing over stricter immigration procedures and interview rules in the current US immigration system.
