An uncomfortable workplace story shared online is drawing strong reactions, especially from professionals working in the US.
The woman who shared the incident says she has been working at the same company for eight years and had built friendly relationships with several coworkers over time.
According to her post, one of those coworkers unexpectedly pulled her aside and made a personal confession.
He allegedly told her that his wife had cheated on him and, as part of dealing with that situation, she had allowed him a “free pass” to sleep with one other woman. He then told her that he had chosen her.
The woman says she was completely caught off guard.
> “I was starstruck and didn’t know what to do so I laughed and politely declined. It kind made me feel really weird after.”
She also added another concern that made the situation more stressful.
> “What should I do? I’m on a H1b and don’t want to risk my visa but I think it was rude of him to think I’m easy like that.”
According to her post, the coworker is married and has two children, while she is single.
The story quickly triggered debate online.
A large section of people encouraged her to document the interaction and speak to HR if she feels uncomfortable, especially if there is any follow-up, pressure, or repeated attempts.
Others felt the situation, while awkward and inappropriate, may not need escalation immediately since she already declined clearly. Their view was simple: if he respects the rejection and never brings it up again, move on. But if he repeats it, creates discomfort, or changes his behavior at work, report it.
The discussion eventually moved beyond the proposal itself and became a conversation about workplace boundaries, professionalism, and the extra hesitation visa holders sometimes feel before speaking up.
