It is a matter of pride for every Keralite to celebrate their culture irrespective of their residence. This was the case when the community was celebrating the Onam festival in Canada. However, a shameful video from the event has sparked controversy and raised the question of civic sense among Indians.
In a video, shared from Toronto, it seems a big fight broke out during the Onam festivities. People were kicking, punching, and tearing each other’s clothes as others tried to separate them. The cause of the fight is still not known but it seems a scuffle broke out between two small groups as the majority of them were there to separate the two parties.

This is not a proud moment for the Indian community who were already facing some racist comments for the Onam celebrations in Toronto’s Dundas Square. These comments were not only from Canadians but also from Indian-origin people who were part of this tirade against their own community.
This video can also act as a bad omen for Trudeau who is being criticized for the increasing population due to immigrants, strained infrastructure, and rising housing prices. As the country goes to election next year the PM has even started to put some curbs on immigration. In such a climate, xenophobic and racist comments from people have become quite common and this video will only help their hate-fueled narrative.
