In a shocking development, a 21-year-old man of Indian origin, Deep Alpesh Kumar Patel, has pleaded guilty to charges of leaving a threatening voicemail targeting a Jewish organization in New York. Patel, residing in Sarasota, Florida, could face up to five years in prison.
The arrest and charges were made last month for transmitting an interstate threat to injure. According to the plea agreement, Patel left a threatening voicemail at the World Jewish Congress in New York City, explicitly identifying himself.
In the voicemail, filled with expletives, he said: “If I had a chance, I would kill every single one of you Israelis. Every single one of you! Cause mass genocide of every single Israeli.”
Patel also confessed to leaving a similarly offensive voicemail at a synagogue in Temple Terrace, Florida, on the same day. He acknowledged intentionally selecting Jewish and/or Israeli individuals as the targets of his threats based on their race, religion, national origin, or ethnicity.
Law enforcement officials visited Patel’s home, where he confirmed making the threatening call. Patel’s sentencing date is pending.
