Jaspal Singh, a 57 years old Indian national, died in the custody of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

He illegally entered the US in 2023, proceedings were on for him to be deported back to India.

Federal authorities said, at the Southeast Georgia Health System’s Camden Campus in St. Mary’s. On April 15 he took his last breath at the age of 57.

In 1992 he legally entered the US, but faced some legal troubles for his immigration status over the years.

In the year 1998, immigration judge ordered him to go back to India;he was self-removed to India, according to an ICE press release.

Through the US-Mexico border, he was trying to enter the US in 2023 when he was caught red handed by the US Customs and Border Protection officers.

He was sent to the Folkston ICE Processing Centre, where he continued his immigration proceedings .

ICE notified the Indian Consulate in New York of Singh’s death.

According to 2018 law,ICE must share all reports about in-custody deaths within 90 days.
