An Indian national has been jailed in the United States of America for illegally selling drugs on the dark web. The 40 year old was arrested from London, from where he ran a drug empire, selling drugs to customers from the US and many other countries. He is now going to face a 5 year jail term and also has to forfeit millions of dollars he amassed through this drug racket.
The arrested man originally belongs from Haldwani, Uttarakhand and had been operating his business from Europe. He created vendor marketing sites on the dark web from where the customers could directly place orders. His business expanded to countries like Canada, Ireland, England, Jamaica, Scotland as well.
All the payments were taken in the form of cryptocurrency, after which he ensured that the drugs were transported to the buyers in the US through shipping services like the US Mail. He sold regulated and banned substances like fentanyl, LSD, ecstasy, xanax and ketamine.
After his arrest, he was extradited to the US where he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances and conspiracy to commit money laundering. He now faces a jail time of 5 years and he also has to pay around $150 million to the authorities.
