The death of 18-year-old student Akul Dhawan on the University of Illinois Urbana campus has shocked the desi community in the U.S.
Akul was reported missing by his roommate around midnight at 1 AM, prompting a police report. Authorities later discovered Dhawan dead on the back porch of a building.
Police suspect no foul play in his death, attributing it to the extreme cold temperatures as Akul was not wearing his winter jacket.
Akul’s parents revealed the tragic details of the incident, stating that friends had called the police, reporting his last known location.
Unfortunately, the police did not arrive in time. Akul was found dead less than a half block away from where his friends reported his last known location.
