In a devastating turn of events, a 23-year-old Indian student, Navjot Singh, pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) course at the University of California, lost his life to malaria while on a study tour in Brazil.
Navjot, hailing from Shivpuri district in Madhya Pradesh, arrived in Brazil on November 16-17, embarking on what should have been an enriching academic journey.
However, his visit took a tragic turn when he complained of fever and mild shivering on November 19. Despite receiving prompt medical assistance, his condition worsened, leading to his admission to a hospital in Sao Paulo.
Sher Singh, the grieving father, revealed that he last communicated with his son through a video call on November 21 and 22. The family’s hopes were shattered on November 23 when they were informed of Navjot’s critical condition. Tragically, on November 24 at 4:30 am, Navjot succumbed to the illness, leaving behind a heartbroken family.
The cause of Navjot’s untimely demise was confirmed as malaria, according to the postmortem report received by Sher Singh. Navjot’s passing has left the family in deep sorrow, especially considering he was their only son.
Efforts are underway to repatriate Navjot’s body to India. Shivpuri collector Ravindra Kumar Choudhary has been actively involved in coordinating with the Sao Paulo consul to expedite the process.
Despite bureaucratic challenges worsened by the weekend, the necessary paperwork for bringing Navjot’s mortal remains back home is nearing completion.
