A tragic incident in the United States has claimed the life of a young Telugu student, Anurup Reddy, in a heartbreaking act of courage and selflessness.
According to reports, Anurup Reddy was swimming with friends in the Sabine River at Toro Road Park in Louisiana when the accident occurred. During the outing, three of his friends reportedly drifted into a deeper section of the river and began calling for help.
Witnesses say Anurup immediately sprang into action. Despite the dangerous conditions, he managed to help rescue the three friends one by one, bringing them back to safety. However, while attempting to return himself, tragedy struck.
Reports indicate that a fishing wire became entangled around Anuroop’s leg, making it difficult for him to reach the surface. At the same time, the river’s current intensified. Friends on the shore and other swimmers reportedly tried to rescue him, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Authorities and community organizations are now coordinating efforts to repatriate his body to India. With support from Team Aid volunteers, the Indian Embassy, and the Louisiana Consulate, his mortal remains are expected to be handed over to his family within the coming week.
Anurup Reddy hailed from Kavadipalli village in Abdullapurmet mandal on the outskirts of Hyderabad. He was the second son of real estate businessman Rajender Reddy and Durga Bhavani. Anurup and his elder brother, Ashrith Reddy, moved to the United States about five years ago to pursue higher education.
He had recently completed his Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of North Texas and was preparing to begin his job search in June. Family members say they never imagined that a young man standing at the threshold of his career would return home under such tragic circumstances.
Those who knew Anurup describe him as a kind-hearted and socially conscious individual. His brother revealed that he was passionate about photography and actively participated in community service activities.
The incident has left his family, friends, and the Telugu community in deep shock. A young man with a promising future ahead of him made the ultimate sacrifice in an attempt to rescue his friends, turning what began as a casual outing into a tragedy that has touched countless people both in India and abroad.
