
The United States and China have clearly declared an all-out trade war, with both countries slapping exorbitant tariffs on each other’s imports. While India might be hoping to benefit from the fallout, the reality is far more complicated.
Trump just imposed a massive 104% tariff on Chinese goods, prompting China to hit back with an 84% tax on US imports. Some Indian pundits believe this is the opportune time for India to step up and replace China.

But American experts are skeptical and some even warn that India could be next on the chopping block. Trump’s tariff madness shows he has little regard for global trade, and he’s risking a complete shutdown of imports.
Economist Jeffrey Sachs has cautioned India against blindly siding with the US or adopting an anti-China stance. According to him, India needs a more balanced strategy, as Trump offers no guarantees and could just as easily turn on his old friend Modi.

Global supply chains are already under strain, and Indian exports are also feeling the heat from the US-China war.
Trump has made it clear that he’s ready to go after anyone and anything for his “America First” agenda. India must focus on its own resources and building ties elsewhere because the Modi-Trump friendship won’t save us in these turbulent times.
