In a tragic incident, 52-year-old Saju Chelavalel from Kerala was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 40 years in jail for the murder of his wife and their two children in the UK.
Chelavalel pleaded guilty to the crimes and appeared in court, where an audio recording of the incident was played. The judge noted that the children could be heard crying for their mother while Chelavalel was harming her.
The police arrived at their home after a neighbor’s call and found Chelavalel holding a knife. Despite attempts to persuade him to drop the weapon, he was tasered and arrested. Chelavalel claimed his actions were a result of his wife’s alleged infidelity and being under the influence of alcohol.
The victims, including Anju, a nurse, died from asphyxiation. The family spokesperson mentioned that Anju’s sister, the children’s aunt, was hospitalized in India due to the shock. The detective in charge expressed disbelief and stated that Chelavalel had destroyed his role as a protector for his family.
