In a shocking plot twist straight out of a thriller, a Virginia man who once begged for his missing wife’s return is now arrested for her murder and covering up the crime.
Naresh Bhatt, 37, was taken into custody on August 22 after his wife, Mamta Kafle Bhatt, 28, vanished without a trace.

Mamta, a registered nurse at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center, was last seen on July 27. She was reported missing by Bhatt on August 5, who initially suggested she might have gone to visit relatives in New York or Texas.
However, it was later revealed she had no connections in those states, and her phone was active only until August 1.

Investigators found troubling evidence at the couple’s Manassas Park home, including blood stains and signs that Mamta’s body had been dragged from the house.
Digital and forensic evidence pointed to Naresh Bhatt’s involvement, and he is accused of buying knives and cleaning supplies shortly after her disappearance, raising suspicions of an attempted cover-up.

Despite his emotional pleas for Mamta’s return and claims that he and their young daughter were waiting for her, Naresh Bhatt’s statements to the police were inconsistent. He eventually ceased cooperating with authorities.
Authorities discovered that Naresh Bhatt had packed a suitcase and was trying to sell his Tesla and their home, suggesting he might have been preparing to flee. He is now held without bond and is set for a bond hearing on August 26.
Mamta’s parents from Nepal have been granted emergency visas to care for their granddaughter, who has been placed in social services’ custody following Bhatt’s arrest.
