A tragic case from the United Kingdom has shocked many in India. Vijay Kumar Sheoran, a 30 year old student from Haryana, was stabbed in Worcester and died in the hospital. He had left a government job earlier this year to study at the University of the West of England, Bristol.
West Mercia Police said the attack happened on November 25 at around 4:15 am. Vijay was found seriously injured on Barbourne Road. He was taken to the hospital but did not survive.
Police arrested five men on suspicion of murder. They are now out on bail while the investigation continues. A sixth person was also arrested but later released with no action taken.
Vijay’s family in India is in grief. His brother Ravi Kumar has written to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar asking for immediate support to bring Vijay’s body home for final rites. The family has also reached out to Manohar Lal Khattar and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
Ravi said the family is struggling with the legal steps and expenses involved in bringing the body back. He also mentioned that people from Haryana and Punjab could be linked to the case, and the family wants justice for Vijay.
