Outdoor adventure attracts thousands of people all around the world to escape from the mundane city life. But often we see this turning into misadventure proving tragic for many families.
When Ranjith Varma, an Indian origin resident of Virginia decided to go on a hike to the Grand Canyon, it ended tragically with the hiker’s death. The 55 year old man went on a single day rim to rim trek at the Grand Canyon national park, Colorado with a group of six members.
They were hiking from the north rim to the south rim when the man became unresponsive. The distress call was made immediately and a helicopter was dispatched for the rescue.
However, due to difficult terrain, the helicopter was having trouble landing. They tried to resuscitate the man but the man was declared dead. It is likely that extreme heat caused the death of man.
The Grand Canyon is famous for extremely high temperatures like 49°C. On the day of the accident as well the temperature was above 37°C. The trail they were on is considered to be one of the most dangerous trails in the park.
