A kindhearted Indian-origin driver is being described as a hero for helping homeless people on the freezing streets of Canada. Truck driver Tejinder Singh, who works in Edmonton, Alberta, has been offering free rides and warm clothes to those who require them.

According to Singh, he was influenced by his Sikh religion and the words of Guru Nanak, the originator of Sikhism. “He told us that we are to share with others, give to others, and serve mankind,” Singh said in an interview with India Today.

Singh stated that he initiated his project last year upon witnessing a homeless person freezing in the cold. He took him to a shelter and provided him with a jacket to protect him from the cold. Since then he has been helping anyone he sees on the streets.

Singh adds that he spends around $500 a month on fuel to travel, clothes, and food to feed the homeless. He stated that he does not anticipate anything back other than a smile and thank you.
