In Brampton, Canada, an 18-year-old of Indian origin, Preetpaul Singh, was arrested for assisting in the murder of another 18-year-old Indian-origin man named Nishan Thind.
Thind was fatally shot by a 16-year-old boy who is currently on the run, with a Canada-wide manhunt underway.
Detectives from the Peel Regional Police Homicide Bureau took action after Thind was admitted to a local hospital on December 19, 2023, and later died.
Thind had been shot, but the details of the crime’s location and time were initially unknown. Investigations revealed he was dropped off at the hospital by someone.
On January 9, 2024, a search warrant at a Brampton residence led to the arrest of Preetpaul Singh, charged with being an accessory after the fact to commit an indictable offense. Singh is in custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
The 16-year-old suspected shooter has a Canada-wide warrant for manslaughter, but their identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The motive behind Thind’s murder is still under investigation.
