A shocking report has come out by a Canadian news outlet that directly affects the dream of many Indians.
The report revealed the statistics for acceptance-refusal for student visas in Canada. To everyone’s surprise, around 50% of total International applicants were denied visas by Canada. The country with highest rejection is India as Indians lead the applicants list too.
At the moment, there are over 320,000 Indians in Canada on a study permit.
In the last decade, the number of International students in Canada has surged by three times. But the top reason behind this surge is the hope behind getting PR (permanent residency). There are many middlemen (agents) who paint the dream of a better life and permanent residence to International students. This led to this increase in the stats.
But, Canada has changed its policy over International students in an attempt to maintain the quality of education it provides. One example is the higher fees that international students pay (almost five times more than a Canadian). Still, many go for it because of the hope of a better life.
Indians being the major target of this refusal may have links with the ongoing tussle between the two governments over foreign policies.
If this trend continues, students may choose a different destination for their academic journey.
