As the race for the Presidential election warms up, the aspiring Republican candidates are putting forth their ambitions and ideas about how they will rule. Donald Trump, the former US president, has sparked a new debate as he promised to ban sex change for children if he is voted to power.
Trump has advocated earlier as well against gender-affirming care given to minors. He has even said that he will formulate policies to punish doctors and hospitals that provide sex change facilities to minors. In June this year, Trump had even said that he will ban the government from providing trans care at any age.
Speaking at an event in Michigan, Trump said, “sex change for children will be banned,” . He further said,” without parental consent, the whole thing is insane, the country has gone insane”. His remarks have created a new controversy and members of the LGBTQ+ community have expressed their disappointment at it.
It is believed that Trump’s stance on social issues have moved further right in the 2024 election campaign. Earlier Trump had made a statement saying he will cut the funding of schools that in his words pushes “critical race theory, transgender insanity, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content”.
