Two Telugu students were deported from Boston’s Logan International Airport. An Instagram post calls for community help as the students’ families have not been able to contact them.
The students were returning from Hyderabad to complete their final semester in the US. However, they were held back by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) upon landing.
CBP officers questioned the students for hours before forcibly deporting them back to India. It is still unclear what led to their deportation.
Their families are distressed and panicked, with parents unable to contact them. Similar cases have been noted at the Boston Airport, with the airport being notorious for pick out minor inconsistencies.
Many Indian immigrants have raised issues over these kinds of incidents. Indian students in the US have often been deported even after having valid F-1 visas.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India have clarified that such deportations are not targeted. Immigrants should not believe that they are specifically being targeted for removal.
However, the United States’ recent policies and attitude towards Indian immigrant, makes it hard to believe. The fact that deportations also can trigger a 5-year ban is also terrifying.
The parents of the students have been urged to seek legal help. As of now, no other information has surfaced.
