Indians living abroad are often subject to racism and other societal extremities. Here is one such case involving an Indian named Kajal Sharma who is residing in London, UK.
Going into the story, Kajal Sharma used to work at the Portsmouth University before her 5-year contract came to an end in 2020. Once the contract period was over, she reapplied for the job, furnishing her experience and expertise.
However, University Line Manager Professor Gary Rees rejected her candidacy without a specific reason. Kajal then approached the court, saying Rees rejected her candidacy for racial reasons and added that he didn’t even present her with a valid reason for turning down the same. She added that a candidate with no experience was later accepted for the job.
The case was filed at Southampton Employment Tribunal and upon investigation, it was identified that Rees had no valid reason to reject Kajal Sharma’s candidature.
In a new development, the Tribunal ordered the university to pay £450K to Kajal Sharma for wrongful termination.
